If you are an intelligent person, you have to admit that it's an interesting question On the one hand, you believe that God answers prayers and performs miracles. On the other hand, you know that God completely ignores amputees when they pray for miracles. How do you deal with this discrepancy? As an intelligent person, you have to deal with it, because it makes no sense.
In order to handle it, notice that you have to create some kind of rationalization. You have to invent an excuse on God's behalf to explain this strange fact of life.
You might say, "well, God must have some kind of special plan for amputees. Here is another example. As a Christian, you believe that God cares about you and answers your prayers. So the second question is: Why are there so many starving people in our world? Look out at our world and notice that millions of children are dying of starvation. It really is horrific. Why would God be worried about you getting a raise, while at the same time ignoring the prayers of these desperate, innocent little children?
It really doesn't make any sense, does it? Why would a loving god do this? To explain it, you have to come up with some sort of very strange excuse for God. Like, "God wants these children to suffer and die for some divine, mysterious reason. Third question: Why does God demand the death of so many innocent people in the Bible?
It doesn't make any sense, does it? Why would a loving God want us to murder our fellow human beings over such trivial matters? Just because you work on the wrong day of the week, you must die? That makes no sense, does it? In fact, if you think about it, you realize that it is insane. So you create some kind of rationalization to explain these verses. Question 4: Why does the Bible contain so much anti-scientific nonsense?
You have a college degree, so you know what I'm talking about. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. This is an important prayer. There is lung cancer, brain cancer, Colon cancer, skin cancer and all the rest. We pray sincerely, knowing that when God answers this completely heartfelt, unselfish, non-materialistic prayer, it will glorify God and help millions of people in remarkable ways. Will God reach down and eliminate all the cancerous cells?
This prayer will have no effect whatsoever. Here is the interesting thing. If you ask a lucky horseshoe to cure every case of cancer, the exact same happens. Prayer has exactly the same effect as a horseshoe.
The belief in prayer is a superstition. If you a superstitious person who believes in the power of prayer, you are making excuses right now.
You might be thinking "That prayer is too big. Example 3 If the prayer in example 2 was too big, let's try a smaller prayer. We find 1, deserving cancer patients. We split them into two groups of We pray for the people in the first group, and we touch the people in the second group with a lucky horseshoe.
What do you suppose will happen? Will God reach down and cure all the people in the first group? Of course not. Statistically, the two groups will be identical. Praying for people has no effect on disease. The reason is simple. You might be thinking "Now wait a minute, I know lots of people who have been cured by prayer. When people get this form of cancer, 1 person lives and 9 people die. They all pray. The one who survives shouts, "I prayed to God and he saved me! So it sounds like prayer works, when it fact prayer has no effect.
The "answered prayer" is a coincidence, nothing more. Let's be patient. And in scenario 3 we are waiting for it to answer your prayer, knowing that it is doing what is best for you. Now let me ask you: Will you get down on your knees and worship this jug of milk? Probably not. But why not? You won't worship the jug of milk because you know it didn't do anything. The jug of milk did not "answer" your "prayer"?
The milk jug did not cause you to get a raise or get a check in the mail. Did the milk jug do anything at all? Absolutely not. You know that. We both know that. It was nothing more than a coincidence. When you pray to a jug of milk, any answered prayer is nothing more than a coincidence. That is obvious to any intelligent person. But we both know that the jug of milk did nothing.
If you are a smart person, you may be starting to see the illusion of prayer: "God answers prayers in the form of 'yes', 'no' and 'wait'. It is even true if you pray to a jug of milk. Or a stone idol. Or the planet Jupiter. As a Christian, you have believed that God is answering your prayers. But all that you are seeing is an illusion. The illusion is created by coincidence and the 'yes', 'no' and 'wait' mentality.
Since you are a smart person, you should be able to see this now.
